Mob's journey is defined by his struggle to express emotions without exploding. His friends provide a safe space where he isn't judged for being different or powerful. Reigen, despite lacking actual psychic abilities and being essentially a con artist, uses his intelligence and charisma to solve clients' problems and seems to genuinely care for Mob, having made him promise never to use his powers against other people. Later chapters reveal Reigen stayed in his unprofitable business because he genuinely cares for Mob and enjoys the work. Ritsu, Mob's younger brother, is an eighth grade student with good looks who is an ace student and member of the Student Council. Ritsu has had an inferiority complex towards Mob's powers, though he is able to hide his obsessive longing for psychic power of his own. He acts overly protective towards Mob, aiming to prevent him from lashing out with his power. Ritsu eventually develops his own psychic powers and becomes a fairly powerful Esper, initially using Dimple to hone his abilities. Teruki Hanazawa, known to most as Teru, is Salt Middle School's "ura banchou" ("hidden boss"). Also a powerful Esper, he originally held scorn for people without psychic power, calling them "commoners." After he is lectured and defeated by Mob for his arrogance and for using his powers against others, his perspective on psychic power changes, and he becomes friendlier to those around him. Tome Kurata is the founder and president of the Telepathy Club, a now-disbanded club that the Body Improvement Club lets use their club room. Despite her clubmates preferring to be lazy, Tome is genuinely passionate about telepathy with aspirations of making contact with aliens. She becomes one of Mob's good friends.

The sun sets over Tokyo as Mob walks home with Ritsu. They discuss trivial school matters, ignoring the psychic energy humming beneath Mob's skin. No spirits haunt them tonight; just the sound of sneakers on pavement and shared laughter about homework. It is a quiet victory in itself.

School friends like Teruki Hanazawa and Tome Kurata offer peer validation, treating Mob as a classmate rather than an anomaly. Dimple, a deceptive upper-class evil spirit with red circles on his cheeks, initially possessed a man to establish a cult called LOL to make himself into a god, but was defeated by Mob and lost most of his spiritual capabilities. After being defeated, he hangs around Mob with the stated intent of taking over his body, but eventually finds himself to legitimately care for the child, aiding him as a member of Spirits and Such. Their role in the broader conflict is defensive; they do not fight battles but provide the emotional resilience needed to survive them. They ground Mob when his emotional meter percentage reaches 100% and he is overcome by the strongest emotion he is currently feeling. Through shared meals, schoolwork, and honest conversations, this group reinforces that human connection matters more than psychic strength. They inadvertently become the strongest defense against evil by keeping Mob happy and balanced. Without their support, Mob might succumb to the darkness of his own potential or isolation. Ultimately, they represent the mundane world he fights to protect and live within.
